Reidland JAM

A Place for our Children to Learn and Grow in God

Services

What are Prayer Labs?

Prayer Labs are something that JAM
students participate in every Sunday for about
15 minutes with a prayer Shepherd.
They are divided up into groups so the
prayers can be more individualized and
the students get to know their Shepherds.
Student mentors are encouraged to
come and visit their JAMer during this time so
they too can be involved in this growing experience!

Purpose

The purpose of these prayer labs are to help your students develop the habit of talking to God in prayer for different reasons and to help them realize that God wants us to take every thought and every care to Him in prayer!

Remember this JOY, always pray for Jesus (giving thanks), Others, and then, Yourself!

Prayer Labs

Station 1: Pray for one another

Students will make a card for someone on the prayer list or someone near to their heart.  Shepherds will need to give that to either Katie or one of the teachers to make sure that it gets in the mail.  They will also place that person’s name on an index card and tape it on the prayer wall. Students will write a prayer for that particular person or people in their prayer journal.  After students make cards and write in their journals, Shepherds will lead group in prayer.

Scripture reference: And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.”  Ephesians 6:18

Station 2: Creation Board

Students will make a picture of something that they are thankful that God made.  Pictures will be hung up on the Creation Board.  Students will then write their prayer in their prayer journal.  After students make pictures and write in their journals, Shepherds will lead group in prayer of thanksgiving.

Scripture reference: And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." Genesis 20-22

Station 3: Being Wonderfully Made

Students will write in the prayer journal a prayer of Thanksgiving for being wonderfully made after studying how God made them.  Shepherds and students will pray together about being thankful how God made them.

Scripture Reference: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 27

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14

Station 4: Play dough

Students will work with the play dough to be reminded that God is the potter and they are they clay.  Shepherds and students will pray together that God can use and mold them into strong Christian men and women.  Students will write their own prayer in their journals.

Scripture Reference: Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8

Station 5: Private Prayer Time

Students and Shepherds will go into the “cave” to write in their prayer journals about what is troubling them then the Shepherds will lead the group in prayer.

Scripture Reference: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6

Prayer Labs

Station 6: Spoon and Bowl

Students will stir their bowls and think of hateful things that they have said over time and pray that God will help fill their bowls (hearts) with love to cover their wrongs.  Students will write their prayers in their journals and then Shepherds will then lead the group in prayer.

Scripture Reference: Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. Proverbs 10:12

Station 7: “Knot” to worry

Students will make a list of things that they are worried about.  Shepherds will cut them a piece of yarn and have the students tie knots in it for each of their worries.  The Shepherds will then tie the yarn around the students’ wrist as a reminder that God has their worries.  Shepherds will lead their group in prayer or students can write in their prayer journals.

Scripture Reference:  “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” Matthew 6:27

Station 8: “Blameless”

Students will each take a rock and think about sins that they have committed.  They will write a prayer asking God for forgiveness of these sins.  Shepherds will then lead their group in a prayer of overall forgiveness.

Scripture Reference:  “But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." John 8:7

Station 9: Sand

Students will be reminded that God made us from the dust of the Earth and nothing is impossible for Him.  Students will write a prayer of thanks to God and then pray with their Shepherds.

Scripture Reference:  “the LORD God formed the man The Hebrew for man (adam) sounds like and may be related to the Hebrew for ground (adamah) it is also the name Adam (see Gen. 2:20). from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” Genesis 2:7

Station 10: Entering His Gates with Thanksgiving

Students will brainstorm ways people in their church “family” and people in the community help them become better Christians in their prayer journals.  They will then offer a prayer of thanksgiving for them and write thank you notes.

Scripture Reference: “I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.” Ephesians 1:16
